Role Overview We are seeking passionate freelance linguists to join our community network as Japanese-to-English translators and editors. In this role, you will adapt travel articles, destination guides, blogs, and marketing copy into natural, engaging, and culturally resonant English. This is a flexible, project-based remote position. Requests are assigned on an as-needed basis, making it ideal for established freelancers or content creators looking for supplemental client work. What you’ll do Translate & Localize: Convert Japanese travel guides, articles, and promotional materials into compelling, publication-ready English tailored for an international audience. Proofread & Native-Check: Edit existing English content and translations to ensure grammar accuracy, brand consistency, and proper tone. Maintain Nuance & Accuracy: Conduct light research on regional landmarks, cultural context, and specialized terminology to ensure accurate localization. Collaborate: Communicate efficiently and asynchronously with the Japan Travel team regarding project requirements and timelines. Who We Are Looking For Native-Level English: Exceptional writing, grammar, and editing skills with a strong command of tone and storytelling. Japanese Proficiency: Professional reading comprehension of Japanese to accurately interpret source text. Tourism & Cultural Passion: Strong interest in or experience writing about Japanese culture, geography, and regional travel. Detail-Oriented: A careful eye for nuance, formatting, and consistent terminology. Tech-Savvy & Reliable: Comfortable working remotely, managing deadlines independently, and using cloud collaboration tools (Google Workspace, CMS platforms).
