The Role
We are looking for a Ghanaian-Chinese Translator / Interpreter to support our project team and improve communication with our Chinese-speaking subcontractor on a major construction project in Ghana.
The successful candidate will provide accurate and effective interpretation and translation of technical, construction, health and safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) information. The role will involve supporting communication during site activities, meetings and day-to-day project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Chinese-English and English-Chinese interpretation during site activities, meetings and project discussions
Translate technical, construction and SHEQ-related information accurately and clearly
Support communication between the project team, Chinese-speaking subcontractors and other stakeholders
Interpret during toolbox talks, safety briefings, site meetings, inspections and coordination meetings
Assist with the translation of technical documents, instructions, reports, correspondence and other project materials
Ensure that important technical and safety information is communicated accurately and understood by all relevant parties
Support day-to-day communication between site personnel and the Chinese-speaking subcontractor
Clarify terminology and technical requirements where necessary while maintaining the intended meaning of the original communication
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and impartiality when interpreting
Carry out other translation and interpretation duties as required by the project team
Essential Criteria
Your Experience & Skills
Fluent in English and Chinese, both spoken and written
Previous experience as a translator/interpreter within the construction, engineering, infrastructure or industrial sector is highly desirable
Good understanding of construction terminology and site operations
Knowledge of SHEQ / HSE terminology and requirements is an advantage
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with both English-speaking and Chinese-speaking teams
Ability to work on an active construction site and adapt to a fast-paced project environment
High level of accuracy, attention to detail and professionalism
