PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATOR

Company Description BUFADESO (Bunda Farmers Development Support Organization) is a non-governmental organization based in Bunda District, Mara Region, Tanzania, dedicated to community empowerment through education and sustainable agriculture. The organization focuses on building farmers’ capacity in modern, productive, and environmentally sound farming practices to benefit Tanzanian society. BUFADESO works with farmers, livestock keepers, fishers, and small-scale entrepreneurs to increase productivity and income. Its core activities include training on sustainable agriculture, promoting environmental conservation, and raising awareness on climate change and adaptation strategies. The organization also supports the adoption of appropriate agricultural technologies that strengthen local livelihoods. Role Description The Professional Translator will provide accurate written and oral translations between English and Swahili (and other relevant languages, as needed) to support BUFADESO’s programs and communication materials. This full-time, on-site role based in Bunda involves translating training manuals, project proposals, reports, and educational content for farmers and community members. The Professional Translator will collaborate with program staff to ensure technical terms in agriculture, environment, and climate change are correctly conveyed and easily understood by target audiences. Daily tasks include reviewing and revising translated documents for clarity, consistency, and cultural appropriateness, as well as supporting live interpretation during trainings, workshops, and meetings. The role also requires maintaining organized records of translated materials and aligning all translations with BUFADESO’s mission, values, and communication standards. Qualifications Strong proficiency in English and Swahili, with demonstrated ability in written translation and oral interpretation between both languages. Ability to accurately translate technical content related to agriculture, environmental conservation, climate change, and community development. Excellent skills in grammar, editing, and proofreading to ensure high-quality, clear, and consistent translated materials. Competence in using word processing and document management tools, with basic familiarity with translation software or terminology databases. Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work closely with field staff, trainers, and project teams. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple translation assignments and meet deadlines. Knowledge or experience in NGO work, rural development, or agricultural projects in Tanzania is an added advantage. Diploma or degree in Translation, Languages, Linguistics, Communication, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in translation.
